An Independent Visitor (IV) is a volunteer who visits and befriends a child or young person in care.
Do you want to make a difference to a young person living in care?
Join our awesome team of Independent Visitors.
Life can be unsettling living in Foster Care – show young people that they really matter. Be a consistent adult, often the only one in a young person’s ever-changing life.
To be an Independent Visitor, you just need the initiative and confidence to work independently 1:1 with a young person - doing activities, having fun and creating space to talk. An independent person that is there just for them, outside of the care system.
What does it involve?
• Working 1:1 with a young person in foster care aged 5-18
• Meeting up and doing activities once a month
• Befriending, visiting, mentoring, advocating and advising
• Committing to the role, preferably for at least a year
What support will I get?
OTR will be here to train, develop, and support you. We facilitate 1:1 supervision and peer sessions where you can share experience and knowledge with other IV's.
Travel and activity expenses are covered.
