Counselling Service – Tess’s Story

A young pregnant women of 17 had experienced issues in the past with excessive drug use, drinking and suicidal thoughts. She wanted to feel more confident when making choices around college, dance school and relationships. She wanted to keep her baby but needed support to use existing support systems and to gain confidence.

With the help of Off the Record’s counselling service, the young woman was able to come to a decision about college/education and how she saw her ‘family unit’ developing and managing once the baby was born. She also came to understand and assert her needs and priorities more clearly, and developed a greater sense of self-care. She stopped smoking and was able to be more open with her family, partner and college.
