In order to make sure young people’s voices are heard and listened to in the issues that directly affect us. Mental health education and services have been selected as a key campaign issue for 2015 by both the national UK Youth Parliament and by B&NES Youth Forum. This is timely as mental health services for young people have recently come under the spotlight in the media and Parliament, leading to the Coalition Government releasing new policy on improving mental health services for children and young people.
However, it doesn’t stop there and we believe much work is needed to be done. It is important to us that our campaigns reflect the needs, experiences and views of young people in our area around mental health education and services for young people.
Please take time to fill in this anonymous online form. It is not very long so shouldn’t take very long.
Your opinion really matters to us and will help us to shape our campaign.
2 years ago Off the Record B&NES Youth Forum worked in partnership with the Swindon Youth Forum on the Hear Us Project with the aim of highlighting issues and hopefully removing the stigma and ignorance around mental health. They produced a couple of short films with Ideal Films highlighting young people’s ‘real’ experiences of dealing with mental health issues and the services made available to them, one of the films ‘Not Just a Diagnosis’ won a National award.
You may find these a useful starting point in thinking about youth mental health services:
