Counselling Service – Brad’s Story

An 11 year old client was full of anger and hatred for his father who had left his mother, himself and his siblings for another woman and child. He did not want contact and could not even call him Dad. He protected and looked after his mother but also needed all her attention.

With the help of Off the Record’s counselling service, the young person learned ways of coping with his sadness and anxieties and began to accept other family members as they are. His anger towards his father decreased and he began to respect himself and see his own strengths. He also created a leaflet called ‘What to do when parents split up’, which was used by OTR outreach services in schools.
